An Important Air Quality Update from the Superintendent

June 9, 2023

The air quality in our area continues to improve. However, the NYSDOH recommendation remains to limit strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. Schools remain open, and we will adjust accordingly as the situation improves.  The following precautions remain in effect:

  • Outside recess and physical education classes will be held indoors today.  Field trips scheduled with outdoor activities today will be held indoors at school.

  • Weekend outdoor activities will continue as planned; you will be notified if this changes.

  • Each classroom has state-of-the-art air filtration technology that includes Merv and HEPA filtration.  These air purifiers cleanse the air four times per hour and are being kept on overnight and during the school day to improve air quality.

  • The air circulation system that draws outdoor air into the school buildings are temporarily disabled, and windows and doors are being kept closed.

  • School nurses are monitoring the well-being of students, particularly those with known respiratory issues such as asthma.

We continue to monitor the air quality alerts and will provide updates as they become available. To monitor air quality, visit www.airnow.gov.
