Transition to Middle School
Louis M. Klein Middle School is committed to developing the unique social, emotional, and academic abilities of each student who attends our school. Each year we welcome students from our four elementary schools, and take pride in supporting their growth academically, socially and emotionally as they become integral members of the LMK community.
The transition to LMK Middle School begins in January and continues into the spring and summer. Our goal is to prepare incoming 6th grade students for a well-rounded and successful middle school experience. The transition program helps students and their families form an understanding of our middle school, while reinforcing and honoring successes in elementary school. Our multi-layered approach begins with a parent information and orientation session, and visits to each elementary school by LMK Middle School Principal, Scott Fried and current 6th grade students.
The transition timeline identifies each step in the process that includes both group and individual connections to 5th grade students. In particular, the “pen-pal” correspondence offers an opportunity for 5th grade students to form a personal connection with a 6th grader and ask specific questions about being an LMK student.
Members of our transition team work with teachers and administrators at the four elementary schools to ensure every student experiences a smooth transition from 5th to 6th grade. Our transition team consists of our school principal, assistant principals, guidance counselors, supervisors/directors of departments, psychologists.
