Moving Up Information 2024

Dear 8th Grade Families,

Spring is almost here, and soon our 8th graders will complete their middle school journey and transition to high school. Our students will celebrate with the annual PTA sponsored barbeque in school on June 14th. The Moving Up Ceremony is a particularly special occasion that recognizes your child's accomplishments during their time at LMK Middle School. We look forward to celebrating with you and the LMK Class of 2024.

I have outlined information about the Moving Up Ceremony. Please read the important procedures and protocols carefully.

  • Day/Time/Location:

    • Date: Tuesday, June 25, 2024

    • Ceremony Start Time: 5:00 PM

    • Arrival Time for Students: 4:00 PM

    • Location: Harrison High School Performing Arts Center

  • Student Attendance: If your child is unable to attend the Moving Up Ceremony, please inform Mr. Scott Spector, Assistant Principal, by June 19 (spectors@harrisoncsd.org, 914-630-3034)

  • Ceremony Tickets:

    • Each family will receive two tickets for the 8th Grade Moving Up Ceremony.

    • Tickets will be distributed to students at the rehearsals during the final week of school.

    • It is important that students attend the in-school rehearsals; however, if your child is absent on the day tickets are distributed, tickets may be picked up in the main office after school the week of the moving up ceremony.

    • Families may request one extra ticket, and we will try to accommodate as many people as possible in the order requests are received. We cannot guarantee seating in the HPAC for more than two guests; however, the ceremony will be live-streamed. If you are requesting additional tickets, use this Google Form. Please complete the request form no later than May 17, 2024.

  • Live Streaming:  For those who are unable to attend the ceremony in person, the ceremony will be live-streamed via a link on the district website. Link to livestream will be available on the day of the ceremony.

  • Parking: Parking for the Moving up ceremony will be available on-site at Harrison High School. There is limited parking on the high school campus, and we ask that families come to the ceremony in one car.

  • Arrival and Pickup Procedures:

    • Students are to arrive for the Moving Up Ceremony no later than 4:00 pm.

    • Families may meet their children after the ceremony in the Harrison High School Student Union and patio area outside.

  • Ceremony: The ceremony will include live speeches by students, administrators, and the Board of Education. Additionally, each 8th grader’s name will be announced as they cross the stage to receive a certificate from the principal.

  • Behavioral Guidelines and Student Attire: Please acknowledge that you and your child have reviewed the following information by completing this Google Form.

    • Each student is expected to behave in an appropriate and respectful manner.

    • Students should dress neatly, and there should be no eating, drinking, or gum chewing during the ceremony.

    • Polite applause is welcomed and encouraged, but there should be no yelling, whistling, or excessive unruly cheering.

    • Each student is expected to dress neatly and appropriately and conform to the following dress code. Boys are expected to wear a collared dress shirt and khaki/dress slacks. Girls are expected to wear dress slacks, a skirt and a blouse, or a dress. All blouses must have sleeves; no spaghetti straps, tank tops, or halter style tops are allowed. Students who have any questions as to whether or not their clothing is acceptable should ask an assistant principal or me about it before the day of the ceremony.

  • Photographs: Opportunities to take pictures during the ceremony are restricted. Parents will NOT be allowed to leave their seats and approach the stage to take photographs during the ceremony. A district photographer will take photographs of graduates as they receive their certificates. These pictures will be posted on the district website.

  • Guests with a Disability: Provisions will be made to accommodate guests with a disability. If you have a guest who requires these accommodations, please contact Scott Spector (spectors@harrisoncsd.org) at 914-630-3039.

We are excited to celebrate this memorable event together.

Sincerely,

Scott Fried
Principal
